Courtney Campbell, VM Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference has made a passionate call for unity, as the nation’s leaders officially opened the Conference in Montego Bay, St James this morning (June 18).

Campbell noted that it was a show of unity that piloted the planning of the Conference, leading to record high registration numbers and new sponsors coming on board. He called on the audience, which included Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding to let the spirit of unity continue to drive efforts to create a positive transformation of Jamaica.

“I am proud of the remarkable support and the united effort that has led us here,” said Campbell.

“I challenge us all to let this spirit of unity continue to guide our interactions during this Conference and beyond. Friends, we know the many challenges that plague us. We may disagree on the solutions that are required to solve them, but disagreements rooted in an honest search for just outcomes can be a good thing. It is for us to remember that we are one people with a shared desire to leave our nation and our relationships as a global community better than we found them.”

Campbell said that Jamaicans are accustomed to achieving great things. “But we are never complacent. We have more goals to meet, more records to break, more barriers to shatter – but we can only do it as a united body. Jamaicans, bonded together in common purpose are an unstoppable force,” he said.

“Our very own National Hero the Right Excellent Marcus Garvey famously said, ‘Unity is strength, and in unity, there is strength’. Let us build our strength during this Conference and in the months and years to come,” said Campbell.
